A Story Of Lust, Infidelity And Stalking
The Age

As you read this I shall be sitting by a pool sipping what will no doubt be one of too many cocktails in the lush surrounds of Lindeman Island preparing to witness this self proclaimed relationship cynic's worst nightmare - a wedding.
While the open bar, free food and five star locale is sure to help relieve my trepidation, the ghosts of relationships past have a way of rearing their ugly heads in the faces of happy couples. In Act-o-matic 3000's new production Fourplay it's all about relationships. Alice is in a relationship with Tom who works with Natasha. Natasha wants Tom. Alice works with Jack who is drawn to Alice, perhaps too much. New relationships form, and what is old is new again in Jane Bodie's unique story of lust, infidelity and stalking - with a uniquely Melbourne flavour.Jane's play Ride received outstanding reviews during the 2002 International Edinburgh Festival, after sell-out seasons at Belvoir Theatre in Sydney and in Dublin the same year. It has since been picked up for a season on Broadway. She was nominated for the Patrick White Playwrights' Award in 2002 and won a Green Room Award for Outstanding Writing on the Melbourne Fringe in 2003 for her series of monologues, Still. She is currently working at the Royal Court Theatre with the Young Writers Program, and her striking play A Single Act enjoyed a successful season at MTC last year. Director David Ryding has previously helped productions projects for the Perth Theatre Company and WAPAA and will lead a talented ensemble from Act-o-matic 3000 including Brett Whittingham, Olivia Hogan, Kate Gregory and Dan Walls. Fourplay can be seen at the Cromwell Road Theatre, 27a Cromwell Road, South Yarra until 26 May. Bookings are recommended so call 9429 8118 and reserve your ticket or log on to www.actomatic3000.com for details. For information on these events and more see the Arts Directory. -- Wendy Howellwhowell@theage.com.au
